The Blue Jays at Kalaloch Beach wanted to claim the place. They flew all around us, looking for handouts. We didn’t give them any, so eventually they went elsewhere.

Up the beach a ways from the Kalaloch campground, you can see where the rock has been pushed up by forces under the earth, turning these geologic layers on end. In this case, alternate layers contain a lot of iron, accounting for the red color.

Saw this tree with a rather large burl, actually more than one in the forest at the Kalaloch Beach campground.

Kalaloch Lodge, which includes a small hotel and a number of cabins, is a short distance away from the campground. This arch is on the side of the lodge. Nikki got this shot of the ocean and the mouth of Kalaloch creek through the arch.

We found this early spring flower, otherwise known as skunk cabbage for it’s aroma, in the Kalaloch Beach campground. These grow in shaded, wet, swampy areas. They bloom early before the rest of the plants take over the sunlight.

We went to Kalaloch Beach this weekend. This bird spent much of the weekend fascinated by the rearview mirror on the motorhome. All that dirt on the mirror was the bird’s doing. We had to clean it before leaving.
