Watch those gas pumps!

Check out this post concerning mis-behaving fuel pumps. And pay attention to the pumps in the future when you fill your tank. If you live in Oregon, you need to watch the attendant for the same issues…

Simon Warms Himself

In going through Nikki’s pictures, getting ready to take the new lensgames site live, I saw this image of Simon warming himself in front of an unlit fire.

Love this shot!

Local Update

By the way, you may have noticed that the landing page for AhrensAdventures has changed, along with the other main pages. Nikki has been working with Dreamweaver CS3 and putting her design skills to work to improve the look.

When we have some trips to talk about, I think we’ll add new entries to RV Adventures section as well.

The consequences of our actions

Chuck Woodbury reports on these palm trees that had to be relocated to build a solar cell facility at the Furnace Creek Ranch facility in Death Valley.

Palm trees supported with lumber while their roots take hold after relocating them for a Solar power plant.

How fast has transportation changed?

Chuck Woodbury reports on a stage coach used in Death Valley California about 100 years ago.

100 year old stage coach

The saying “Riding shotgun” comes from the man who rode with the drivers and carried shotguns on these coaches in the old west.

Home maintenance continued…

We started replacing the carpet in our master closet yesterday. Today we put in the new carpet, using carpet squares from Lowe’s.

The net result, it looks nice.

A little home maintenance this weekend

Our cat, Simon, has been peeing occasionally in the closet in our master suite. We’ve tried to control it every time we catch it, but it’s just gotten too bad.

We are thinking that after this contract at Boeing is up, we’re going to look along the whole west coast for the next gig, with a good likelihood that we’ll end up in California. Nice weather in California, especially the winters make that pretty attractive.

Whatever happens, we need to do something about the problem in the closet, so we tore up the carpet this morning and set up some fans to dry out the spots that are damp. Then we’ll need to seal the sub-floor to lock the smell in. Then we are putting down carpet squares. I wouldn’t put these in a heavy traffic, main living area, but in a closet, they seem fine. Plus, if the cat does pee on one again, we can pull a single square out and take care of it.

Later this afternoon, or tomorrow morning if it’s not dry by 3:00 pm, we’ll seal the floor. It requires an hour to dry, then we’ll put down the carpet.

Here’s a list.
